UHC Medical Policy Updates

January 2020 ~

UnitedHealthcare (UHC) has released its 2020 Summary of Changes to Advance Notification and Prior Authorization Requirements.

These changes are part of UnitedHealthcare’s ongoing responsibility to evaluate the insurer’s medical policies, clinical programs, and health benefits compared to the latest scientific evidence and specialty society guidance. Using evidence-based medicine to guide coverage decisions supports quality patient care and reflects UHC’s shared commitment to the Triple Aim of better care, improved health outcomes and lower costs.

Although prior authorization requirements may be removed for certain codes, post-service determinations may still be applicable based on criteria published in medical policies, local/national coverage determination criteria, and/or state fee schedule coverage.
