New York – Medicaid Managed Care Expansion Approved for More Counties

WellCare Health Plans announced that it will offer Medicaid managed care, Child Health Plus, and Essential Plan coverage in three more New York counties, after receiving approval from state regulators.
The approval adds Broome, Richmond, and Suffolk counties to the company’s Medicaid Managed Care, Child Health Plus and Essential Plan programs, effectively immediately.
According to the announcement, The expansion complements WellCare’s existing 16-county coverage area in Nassau, Kings, Queens, Manhattan, Bronx, Erie , Niagara, Steuben, Schuyler, Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Duchess, Orange, Ulster and Rockland for Medicaid, Child Health Plus and Essential Plan programs.
As of December 31, 2018, WellCare serves approximately 295,000 members in New York, including 155,000 Medicaid members, 89,000 Medicare Advantage plan members and 52,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members.
