Cigna Preventive Care Services Policy & Precertification Updates
September 2019 ~
Cigna has made several additions and removals to its precertification list, as well as updates to its Preventive Care Services Policy.
Precertification Updates
NEW Codes
- Effective Date: July 1, 2019
- 29 Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) codes
- Eight new Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes
- Effective Date: August 23, 2019
- 44 existing CPT codes
NOTE: There were no codes removed from the precertification list.
Preventive Care Services Policy Updates
Breast Pumps
- Effective Date: April 15, 2019
- Breast pump, manual, electric (AC and/or DC), any type, does not require a prescription. Hospital grade breast pumps do not require precertification; however, a prescription is required. Reminder: Must be ordered through CareCentrix, Cigna’s national durable equipment vendor; one per birth.
- Codes: E0602, E0603 E0604
Human Papillomavirus Vaccine
- Effective Date: April 15, 2019
- Age limits are not applied for dates of service effective on or after February 16, 2019
- Codes: 90649, 90650, 90651
Aortic Abdominal Aneurysm (AAA) Screening
- Effective Date: October 1, 2019
- Deleted CPT® codes: 767500, 76705, 76770, 76775
- Deleted HCPCS code: G0389
