CMS Delays Reporting Deadline for Medicare Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedule (CLFS)

April 2017 ~

CMS has announced(pdf) a 60 day delay of the deadline for reporting requirements for clinical diagnostic laboratory tests under the Medicare Clinical Laboratory Fee Schedule (CLFS).

Required by the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014 (PAMA), the data will be used to set Medicare clinical lab fee schedule (CLFS) rates beginning in 2018.

CMS stated the deadline was moved to May 30 due to industry feedback which suggested that many reporting entities would not be able to submit a complete set of applicable information by the initial March 31 deadline.

The 60-day delay is the maximum amount of time CMS can allow and still have adequate time to calculate CLFS payment rates scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2018.

For more information see CMS’ PAMA Regulations.
