Aetna Issues Letter to Providers: COVID-19 – Taking Action

March 2020 ~

Aetna has issued a letter to providers detailing the steps the insurer is taking to ensure beneficiaries have access to testing and treatment for COVID-19.

Aetna will provide the following resources and enhancements when applicable:

  • Patient cost-sharing will be waived for test requests related to COVID-19
  • Costs will be covered for physician-ordered test and the physician visit that results in a COVID-19 test, which can be done in any approved laboratory location
  • $0 for covered telemedicine visits through June 4, 2020
  • Expanded coverage of telemedicine visits
  • Minor acute evaluation and management services care services rendered via telephone will be covered for the next 90 days
  • Medicare Advantage brief virtual check-in and remote evaluation benefits will be offered without co-pay
  • No fee for home delivery of prescription medications from CVS Pharmacy®
  • Early refill limits waived on 30-day prescription maintenance medications for all Commercial members with pharmacy benefits administered through CVS Caremark
  • Aetna Medicare members may request early refills on 90-day prescription maintenance medications at retail or mail pharmacies if needed
  • For drugs on a specialty tier, early refill limits for a 30-day supply will be waived
