CMS Issues 2010 eRx Incentive Payments
September 7, 2011 – On August 17, 2011, CMS announced that they would soon begin issuing incentive payments for the 2010 Medicare Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program for eligible professionals (EPs) who met the criteria for successful reporting. Distribution of payments for the eRx Incentive Program was scheduled to be completed by August 31, 2011.
Effective January 2010, CMS revised the manner in which incentive payment information is communicated to eligible professionals receiving electronic remittance advices. If payment is received electronically, an indicator of LE with a 4-digit code of RX10, which indicates that this is an incentive payment for the eRx program in the year 2010, will appear on the advice. Paper remittance advices will read, “This is an eRx incentive payment.” The year will not be included on the paper advice.
On September 2, 2011, CMS announced that the 2010 eRx Incentive Program ”feedback” reports are available. Feedback reports are compiled at the TIN level, with individual-reporting by NPI information for each EP who reported at least one valid eRx quality data code on a claim submitted under that TIN for services reported during the reporting period. Group Practice Reporting Option (GPRO) participants will only have reporting data at the TIN level and not at the EP level. The feedback reports will indicate whether an EP or Group has provided enough measure-reporting to qualify for an eRx payment.
