CMS Extends Timeframe for Provider Re-Validation and Provides Physician List

November 14, 2011 – As we have reported in several of our newsletters, all providers and suppliers who enrolled in the Medicare program prior to Friday, March 25, 2011, will be required to revalidate their enrollment under new risk screening criteria required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

CMS originally set out to send re-enrollment notices to providers through March 2013 but CMS has recently announced that they will extend the timeframe for mailing re-enrollment forms through March of 2015, allowing for a smoother process for providers and contractors.

Between now and March 2015, Medicare contractors will send out revalidation notices on an intermittent, but regular basis to begin the revalidation process.   Upon receipt of the revalidation request, providers/suppliers will have 60 days from the date of the letter to submit complete enrollment forms.  Failure to complete and submit the enrollment form may result in the deactivation of your Medicare billing privileges.

IMPORTANT:  This extension does not affect those providers who have already received a revalidation notice.

List of Providers sent a Revalidation Request

In response to provider requests; CMS has posted a listing of providers who have already been sent a request to revalidate their Medicare enrollment information. The listing contains the name and national provider identifier (NPI) of each provider sent a letter, as well as the date the letter was sent.

If you are unsure as to whether you received a revalidation request, click on “Revalidation Phase 1 Listing” in the Downloads section of the Medicare Provider Supplier Enrollment Revalidation Page.
